Experiences

We at the Chesapeake Inn firmly believe in the importance of occasionally taking a retreat from daily life. Stepping away from our usual routines allows us to rest, to breathe and to reinvigorate ourselves. Sometimes all we need is a break, a pause – and sometimes we need to reimagine ourselves a bit.

connect with your heart

If you just need a weekend to get away without worry, the simplicity and peace of our wonderful little town – with the luxury of a beautiful space to rest your head – may be just what you need.  We have a beautiful park where you can sit alone by the River and a teeny tiny beach you can reach by water.

But we also know that sometimes you need more than a comfortable bed and a beautiful room to truly relax.  Sometimes you need to stretch your body and your mind.   With that in mind, we have developed some additional experiences to help our guests find peace and re-energize:

Yoga – We offer yoga in the Rappahannock Room or in the garden (no additional charge, but private sessions are available upon request)

Soundbath – We fell in love with the benefits of soundbaths, and offer them at least twice a month in the Rappahannock Room. If you visit on a weekend when we don’t have one scheduled, don’t hesitate to reach out about a private session. Once a month, a soundbath and yoga class is offered at the Town Marina, which is an amazing experience we highly recommend.

Equus Life Coaching Session – If you’d like to try a unique experience that will help you gain clarity around an issue or challenge in your life, our very own Gari is available for private Equus sessions – where she partners with a beautiful horse to help you learn more about yourself.  The sessions take place just a few minutes from the Inn at a horse farm in Saluda.  Absolutely no riding is involved, just connection with an amazing creature. connect with nature & art

Oysters — Learn about how oysters grow in one of our signature experiences organized with the help of the Friends of the Rappahannock. If you’d like an individual oyster experience, we can also arrange that with notice.

Kayaking — Our kayaks are always available for you to explore the Urbanna Creek and river — our Blue Water Trail will take you past both historic sights and natural wonders (don’t be surprised if you spot dolphins and an osprey nest). But if you are looking for an amazing guided trip in one of Virginia’s most pristine areas we sometimes have a very few tickets available to the paddles led by the Friends of Dragon Run, which sell out nearly immediately. Ask us how to reserve one of our places!

Bird-watching — We work with several local experts who would be happy to help you see and learn about some of the amazing birdlife we have in our area. And even without an expert, keep an eye out for our eagles, herons and osprey!

Hiking — We can recommend a number of wonderful nearby parks for hiking, fishing and more

Explore Your Artistic Side — River Creations, just steps away from the Inn, offers everyone an opportunity to explore their artistic side and make their very own stained glass.

plan your own adventure

Let us help you plan exactly the adventure you’re looking for, whether it’s quiet and calm or just a bit out of the ordinary. The middle penninsula hosts some truly unique experiences available:

Book a private boat trip to explore hidden spots in the Chesapeake Bay area, fish, crab or just enjoy the ride

Try croquet at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club — the largest croquet facility in the world is located 15 minutes away

Take a scenic airplane trip or a ride in a warbird at Bay Aviation (just 10 minutes from Urbanna)

Retrace the steps of the America’s first colonists at Jamestown or General Washington’s victorious revolutionary soldiers at Yorktown - both a short drive away!

And to make your trip even more special, ask us to put together one of our fabulous picnic baskets for you! We can source local sandwiches, fancy delicacies — or everyone’s favorite gas station fried chicken
